Why the Billionaire Spending Billions to Rejuvenate to Age 18 Started Drinking Coffee Again

Sharing Research Results, Chooses "Morning Coffee"
"Afternoon Coffee Disrupts Sleep... Avoid Sugar Too"

Billionaire Brian Johnson, who invests billions of won annually in his quest to rejuvenate himself to the age of 18, recently revealed that he has started drinking coffee again after having quit it for health reasons.

According to recent reports from international media outlets such as the UK’s Daily Mail, Johnson resumed coffee consumption based on research conducted by Tulane University in Louisiana, USA. Previously, Johnson had abstained from caffeine for several years for health reasons. Johnson emphasized, "What matters is when you drink coffee," stressing the importance of drinking coffee early in the morning.

The Tulane University study found that people who drink coffee have a 16% lower risk of death from all causes and a 31% lower risk of cardiovascular disease compared to those who do not drink coffee. However, the risk reduction effect disappeared for those who consumed coffee multiple times throughout the day. The researchers explained, "It is likely because caffeine consumed in the afternoon or evening interferes with sleep and hormonal rhythms." The study analyzed data from more than 40,000 participants in the US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey between 1999 and 2018.

Johnson stated, "Caffeine has a half-life of five to six hours in the body," adding, "So if you drink a cup of coffee at 3 p.m., half of it remains in your system by 9 p.m." He explained that "the caffeine remaining in the body affects sleep, which plays a crucial role in health."

However, Johnson noted, "Caffeine can increase metabolic rate and improve vascular function and blood flow," and explained that the caffeine and polyphenols in coffee may reduce inflammation and protect brain cells. Polyphenols are natural compounds found in plants that act as antioxidants, helping to prevent cell damage and induce autophagy-a natural process that cleans out damaged or old cells.

He argued, "Ultimately, if caffeine is consumed properly, it can be used as a longevity treatment," and added, "If you want to benefit from coffee’s potential longevity effects, it’s best to drink it as early in the day as possible and avoid things like sugar that can offset these benefits."

Meanwhile, Johnson is known for investing 2 million dollars (about 2.9 billion won) annually in his so-called "rejuvenation project." In 2023, he received a 1-liter plasma transfusion once a month for six months from young donors, including his son Telmaze Johnson (who was 17 at the time). In addition to exercising regularly to reduce his biological age, he takes 111 nutritional supplements daily and avoids activities harmful to health, such as consuming fast food, alcohol, and tobacco. Through this project, he claims that at the age of 46, he has achieved the heart of a 37-year-old, the skin of a 28-year-old, and the fitness of an 18-year-old.
