Kim Attends Halal K-Food Promotion Event
Visits UAE Company Booths... Shows Interest in Halal-Certified Korean Beef Sirloin
On November 19 (local time), Kim Hye-kyung, wife of President Lee Jae-myung, who is on a state visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), promoted Korean food that has received Halal certification while wearing a hanbok.
On this day, Kim attended the 'Halal-Certified K-Food Promotion Event' held at the Korean Cultural Center in Abu Dhabi, UAE, dressed in a light jade-colored hanbok. Halal refers to food that is prepared according to Islamic guidelines, including ingredients and manufacturing processes.
Kim visited the booth of a UAE company that has exclusive distribution rights for Samyang Foods' products and tasted the popular ramen brand 'Buldak Bokkeum Myeon' together with local residents. She showed interest by asking, "Can ramen also be Halal-certified?" and after tasting it, she said, "It's spicy but delicious," expressing her gratitude to the staff.
Next, Kim visited the booth of the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT), where she learned about Halal-certified Korean beef sirloin and spoke with representatives from a company that grows Korean strawberries locally. Jeon Yong-pil, head of aT's Dubai branch, explained, "When former National Assembly Speaker Kim Jin-pyo visited the UAE in 2022, the first request was for Korean beef imports," adding, "This year, Korean beef received Halal certification and was first shipped at the end of October."
Afterward, Kim enjoyed refreshments with local K-Food influencers and asked, "What dramas do you watch?" and "Why do you speak Korean so well?" Upon hearing that there is great interest in Korean dramas among locals, she expressed her appreciation, saying, "You could be an ambassador for Korea."
