Kim Jong Un, Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of North Korea, visited public security agencies such as the Ministry of State Security and the Ministry of Social Security, calling on them to fulfill their role in safeguarding the regime.
According to Rodong Sinmun and other sources on November 19, Chairman Kim made consecutive visits the previous day to public security and judicial agencies, including the Ministry of State Security, the Ministry of Social Security, the Supreme Court, and the Supreme Prosecutor's Office, in celebration of their 80th anniversary. During his visit to the Ministry of State Security, he was accompanied by Jo Yongwon, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party, Kim Hyongsik, Director of the Central Committee, and Kang Yunseok, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Supreme People's Assembly.
After being received by Ri Changdae, Minister of State Security, and others, Chairman Kim stated, "Despite the arduous and perilous path marked by fierce struggles with hostile forces, the pages of unprecedented legendary transformation and victories recorded in history would not have been possible without the achievements and distinguished merits of the security personnel." He went on to praise, "The security agencies of the Republic are truly the trustworthy companions and steadfast supporters of our Party."
Chairman Kim also visited the Ministry of Social Security, where he remarked, "The Social Security Forces are the Republic's second core armed force," and emphasized, "It is the grave mission of the Republic's social security agencies to guarantee, through law and arms, the activities of the Party and government dedicated to defending our style of socialism and improving the people's welfare."
The Ministry of State Security and the Ministry of Social Security in North Korea function as counterintelligence and secret police agencies, serving as core institutions that uphold the North Korean regime. Chairman Kim's consecutive visits to these agencies and his encouragement are interpreted as a signal of intentions to further strengthen social control going forward.
