The Korea Energy Awards are presented to organizations and individuals in the industrial, public, and private sectors who have contributed to energy savings, improved efficiency, and the expansion of renewable energy. Gwangjin District was recognized for its outstanding achievements in energy efficiency and carbon neutrality, earning this award.

The district has consistently strengthened its energy supply infrastructure and expanded the distribution of renewable energy. In 2022, it became the first in the country to install a mobile hydrogen charging station, addressing the shortage of charging facilities in northeastern Seoul. From 2023 to 2024, through the “Regional Zero-Emission Vehicle Transition Brand Project” by the Ministry of Environment, the district installed a total of 32 rapid electric vehicle charging stations free of charge at 10 locations, including public parking lots. In addition, Gwangjin District established a stable and sustainable operating system in collaboration with relevant organizations and the private sector.

The district has also actively promoted resident support programs to save energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Key initiatives include distributing LED lighting and solar power systems to vulnerable groups, and providing subsidies for the purchase of eco-friendly vehicles and electric two-wheelers. Participatory programs such as the “Eco Mileage Program” and the “Building Energy Reporting and Rating System” have encouraged voluntary participation from residents.

Furthermore, Gwangjin District has worked to spread a culture of energy conservation through community-based carbon reduction policies and events, such as the “Gwangjin Environment Festival,” the “Climate 1.5°C Film Festival,” and the “Running Together for Zero Gwangjin 3K Event.”

Looking ahead, Gwangjin District plans to further develop a lifestyle-based energy-saving system in which both the public and private sectors participate, continuing its role as a leading local government in energy transition.

Mayor Kim Joungho stated, “This award is a meaningful achievement that nationally recognizes Gwangjin District’s efforts to improve energy efficiency and practice carbon neutrality. Moving forward, we will strengthen eco-friendly and low-carbon policies and work with residents to build a carbon-neutral society, ensuring a sustainable city where future generations can live safely.”
