At around 1:30 p.m. on November 17, a van heading toward Changnyeong collided head-on with the right side of a passenger car that was traveling toward Uiryeong-eup at Dongdong Intersection, Burim-myeon, Uiryeong-gun, Gyeongnam Province.
According to the Uiryeong Police Station and Gyeongnam Fire Headquarters on November 18, the van toppled onto its left side on a sidewalk near the scene as a result of the accident.
An elderly man in his 80s, identified as Mr. A, who was alone in the passenger car, was seriously injured and transported to the hospital, but ultimately passed away.
The van's driver, Mr. B, who is in his 40s, and nine other passengers-a total of ten people-were taken to the hospital with varying degrees of injuries.
It is reported that all ten people in the van were employees of a chick vaccine company based in Daegu, and at the time of the accident, they were returning after administering vaccines at a poultry farm in Uiryeong.
Mr. A, who died, was neither intoxicated nor driving without a license at the time of the accident. He lived in Changwon and was known to visit Uiryeong frequently for personal reasons.
The police are investigating the circumstances of the accident by questioning the van's driver, Mr. B, and reviewing footage from the vehicle's black box and nearby closed-circuit (CC) TV cameras.
