Gwangju Seo-gu Shares Achievements of Resident-Led Walking Project for Healthy Lifestyle Culture

Slogan: "Achieving a Healthy 100-Year Life"

Seo-gu District of Gwangju announced on the 17th that it held the "2025 Walking Project Performance Sharing Meeting" at Deulbul Hall in the Seo-gu Office to foster a resident-led healthy lifestyle culture.

This year, under the slogan "Achieving a Healthy 100-Year Life," Seo-gu promoted the walking project based on three main strategies: expanding walking education, nurturing walking leaders, and revitalizing communities, all aimed at encouraging residents to take charge of their own health.

Seo-gu operated a total of 45 walking programs, including "Correct Walking Education," "Barefoot Youth School," and "Visiting Healing School," with more than 1,100 residents participating. In addition, 194 walking leaders, such as walking instructors and barefoot walking education instructors, were trained to lead a healthy walking culture in the community.

As a new initiative, the "Slow Jogging Group" was launched. Two resident teams participated in 80 sessions of self-directed exercise, contributing to the revitalization of the community by promoting physical and mental health recovery and encouraging interaction among neighbors.

Alongside these efforts, community-based activities such as the Urban Barefoot Festival, Walking Festival, and Slow Jogging Marathon were held, as well as customized programs for different generations, including the Children's Health Growth School and family walking programs, all of which received enthusiastic responses from residents.

The event, held under the theme "A Healthy City Built Together with Residents," was attended by over 200 people and featured performance sharing through videos and presentations, awards for outstanding participants, and a walking performance.

In particular, during the activity case presentations, the process and health recovery experiences of residents who had grown into walking leaders were shared, resonating deeply with attendees.

Kim Ikang, Mayor of Seo-gu, stated, "This year's walking project is a meaningful achievement that demonstrated the power of community, as residents supported each other and shared health through walking. Going forward, we will further expand resident-led walking schools and autonomous communities, and strengthen customized walking programs tailored to local living areas to realize the era of a healthy 100-year life."
