At approximately 11:35 p.m. on November 16, a fire broke out in a first-floor room of a five-story motel in Hapjeong-dong, Masanhoewon-gu, Changwon-si, Gyeongnam Province.
As a result of the fire, a male long-term guest in his 50s, identified as Mr. A, suffered burns to his left arm, chest, legs, face, and other parts of his body. He was transported to the hospital and is currently receiving treatment.
The interior of the room, the bed, and electronic devices were destroyed by the fire, resulting in property damage estimated at 2.3 million won, according to the fire department.
The remaining guests evacuated the building, and no further casualties were reported.
The fire authorities who responded to the scene mobilized 30 personnel and 9 pieces of equipment, and completely extinguished the fire by 12:01 a.m. on November 17.
It was reported that a motel staff member discovered the fire in the room while checking after the automatic fire detection system was activated. After calling 119, the staff attempted to extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher, but was unsuccessful.
The police and fire authorities are currently investigating the exact cause of the fire.
