"AI-Based Household and Care Services Expected to Offer Solutions to the Population Crisis"

Korea Household Care Platform Association Hosts '2025 Population Future Forum Special Discussion'
President Yeon Hyunju Presents AI Household Care Services as a Solution to the Population Crisis

There was an opinion that household and care platforms will become a key infrastructure in overcoming the population crisis. If supported by government policies, the burdens of household chores, caregiving, and child-rearing costs-often cited as causes of low birth rates-can be reduced through the market functions of AI-based household and care services.

The Korea Household Care Platform Association announced on November 17 that it had held the "2025 Population Future Forum Special Discussion" in collaboration with the office of Representative Seo Younggyo of the Democratic Party of Korea, where these topics were discussed. The forum, held on November 14, aimed to highlight how AI-based household care platforms are creating new jobs and to seek institutional development measures to overcome the population crisis. The theme was "Finding Solutions to the Population Crisis with AI-Based Household Care Venture Companies." Representative Seo Younggyo explained the purpose of the forum, saying, "Many young people hesitate to have children due to the burden of child-rearing," and added, "The division and specialization of household care services will become an opportunity to overcome the population crisis."

Kim Kyungseon, Distinguished Professor at Korea Polytechnic University, who gave the keynote presentation, argued for the need to vitalize the market under the theme "The Economic Effects and Prospects of AI-Based Household and Care Services." Professor Kim stated, "The emergence of a new market that provides services by dividing tasks such as laundry, cleaning, and even waste separation can narrow the gap in working hours between men and women in traditional household and care roles, and the reduction in care costs can also help prevent career interruptions among women." Professor Kim also suggested that, as in advanced countries, active tax support for costs should be promoted, noting that household care services, once considered a privilege of the wealthy, are now becoming universal services.

Next, Yeon Hyunju, President of the Korea Household Care Platform Association and CEO of Living Lab, gave a presentation on "The Current Status and Development Plans of AI-Based Household and Care Service Venture Companies." President Yeon emphasized, "As services have become more sophisticated through AI smart matching, user convenience has increased and job satisfaction among workers is also high," and stressed the need for continued investment, such as introducing income and tax deductions for household and care service usage fees, expanding government funding for vouchers and corporate welfare programs.

In the subsequent discussion, Kim Suyeon, former head of Yangcheon District Office, served as moderator, and experts from academia, government, and industry-including Kim Juhwa, Director of Venture Policy at the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, Moon Cheolwoo, Professor at Sungkyunkwan University, Yoo Haemi, Senior Research Fellow at the Korea Institute of Child Care and Education, and Jeong Jiye, CEO of Mompyunhansesang-participated to discuss institutional development measures such as the introduction of income tax deductions and government support for education expenses.

President Yeon stated, "Household care platforms support work-life balance for office workers, create new jobs, and contribute to solving problems of low birth rates and an aging population," and added, "The association will continue to communicate with the government and related organizations and strive for the development of the industry ecosystem." Representative Seo Younggyo emphasized, "I will actively work to ensure that the tax support for household care costs and the need for continued investment in AI-based household and care services proposed at the forum are reflected in the National Assembly."
