"Why the Silence When Yoon's Detention Was Canceled?"
"Proof of the Need for Reform"
On November 15, the Democratic Party of Korea reiterated the necessity of prosecutorial reform, drawing attention to internal backlash within the prosecution over the decision not to appeal the first trial verdict in the Daejang-dong case. At the same time, as the People Power Party raised suspicions of external pressure and launched an offensive, the Democratic Party countered, arguing that Song Eon-seok, the floor leader of the People Power Party, made a distorted claim by linking President Lee Jaemyung to the Daejang-dong case group.

Seunga Baek, floor spokesperson for the Democratic Party of Korea, addressed the prosecution, stating, "What is needed now is not a show of resistance from the prosecution, but responsible reform before the public." She continued, "Targeted investigations, shielding of insiders, and fabricated indictments by the prosecution have long been a reality." Baek added, "It is nothing more than an attempt by vested interests to block ultra-strong reforms-such as the abolition of the Prosecutors' Office and normalization of the Prosecutor Disciplinary Act-when the prosecution, which has long acted according to the will of those in power, suddenly calls for 'independence from power.'" She pointed out, "This selective outrage only proves how urgent prosecutorial reform truly is."
She questioned, "When the prosecution claims to protect its independence and uphold the law and principles, why did no one speak out when the appeal against the decision to cancel Yoon Suk Yeol's detention was abandoned?" She further asked, "At that time, did they issue public statements and demand the resignation of the Prosecutor General as they are doing now?"
Hyunjung Kim, another floor spokesperson for the Democratic Party of Korea, commented on Song's claim made on the 13th, in which he raised suspicions of a pardon deal against President Lee based on a recording by the Daejang-dong group. Kim stated, "Floor Leader Song must immediately apologize and take responsibility for this malicious fabrication and falsehood." Kim further explained, "The recording in question is from 2023, when Yoon Suk Yeol was president. The timing, circumstances, and content of the recording are all clear, yet Song distorted the facts and falsely implicated the current president."
She went on to say, "If Floor Leader Song does not immediately apologize for this serious fabrication that undermined national order and governance, we strongly warn that we will take legal action without delay."
Previously, at the People Power Party's general assembly on the 13th, Floor Leader Song stated, "In the Daejang-dong group's recording, there was talk that 'if Kim Manbae waits for three years, there was an understanding that he would be released during the president's term.' This reveals a glimpse of the pardon deal conspiracy coming to the surface."
