Boseong County in South Jeolla Province announced that the 21st Beolgyo Cockle Festival will be held along the Beolgyo Stream for three days from November 21 to 23.

The Beolgyo Cockle Festival is a local cultural event that utilizes cockles, the region's signature specialty, and the geographical features of Beolgyo, the setting of the novel "Taebaek Mountain Range." The festival is preparing to expand from a regional to a nationwide event.

This year’s festival, held under the theme “The Gift of Pristine Mudflats: Beolgyo Cockle is the Answer,” will feature a variety of performances, hands-on experiences, exhibitions, and food booths offering dishes made with Beolgyo cockles. Anticipation for the event is already high.

The festival will kick off with a traditional farmers’ music parade (street procession), a cockle rice ball making event for 1,000 people, the Cockle Youth Arts Festival, and an opening ceremony. Notably, the opening ceremony will be held in conjunction with MBC’s "Gayo Best," featuring celebratory performances by more than 20 artists including Na Taejoo, Miss Kim, and My Jin.

On the second day, the 17th anniversary of the Taebaek Mountain Range Literature Museum will be celebrated, along with performances such as the “Cockle Story Orchestra” and the “Cockle Music Concert with Arirang.” Hosted by traditional musician Park Aeri, the concert will include celebratory performances by singer Park Jihyun, the Boseong County Korean Traditional Music Orchestra, and Min Seonga, and will culminate in a spectacular fireworks show.

On the final day of the festival, a variety of programs will be held to attract visitors, including a hike to the setting of the novel "Taebaek Mountain Range," a Korean traditional music event, and a youth dance competition.

Festival planning committee chair Kim Gildu stated, “We will make thorough preparations to promote Beolgyo cockles nationwide,” adding, “We hope many tourists will visit, as we are working to elevate the festival to a national event beyond the region.”
