Found Safe in Yeouido After Search
Reason for Absence Not Disclosed
There was a commotion involving the fire department and police conducting a search of the Han River after a student who was supposed to take the 2026 College Scholastic Ability Test failed to appear.
According to Yonhap News on November 13, at around 9:10 a.m. that day, Gangseo Police Station in Seoul received a report that a child who was supposed to take the college entrance exam at Yeongil High School in Gangseo District had gone missing. When the student was absent, the school contacted the parents, and the alarmed parents then reported the incident to the police.
The fire department and police initially identified the missing student's location as near the northern end of Mapo Bridge in Mapo District. Considering the possibility of a suicide attempt, Mapo Fire Station deployed three vehicles, 14 personnel, and a water rescue team, launching a high-speed boat to search the Han River.
Fortunately, during the search, the student's location was later tracked to the Yeouido area in Yeongdeungpo District, and the police found the missing student in Yeouido at around 10:10 a.m. The police plan to hand the student over to their parents. The reason for the student's absence has not been disclosed.
Meanwhile, this year's College Scholastic Ability Test is being held simultaneously at 1,310 test centers in 85 districts nationwide. Due to the high birth rate among those born in 2007, known as the "Year of the Golden Pig," the total number of test-takers reached 554,174. This marks an increase of 31,504 (6.0%) from the previous year and is the largest number in seven years since the 2019 academic year, when there were 594,924 test-takers.
