Onnuri Gift Certificate Usage Area Expands to Gumi Station: Synergy Expected Through Enhanced District Connectivity
Gumi City has established itself as the 'leading city in North Gyeongsang Province' for alleyway commercial district revitalization policies.
Gumi City is holding a Neighborhood Shopping District Deliberation Committee meeting. Provided by Gumi City.
On November 12, the city held a meeting of the Alley-type Shopping District Committee in the small conference room at City Hall, newly designating seven areas and expanding the district of the existing No. 1 Alley-type Shopping District, Jungang-ro Dongmun Shopping District. As a result, Gumi City has become the only city in North Gyeongsang Province to have a total of ten alley-type shopping districts.
Until now, Gumi City maintained its status as the city with the most alley-type shopping districts in North Gyeongsang Province, even with just three districts. With this expansion, the foundation for fostering alleyway commercial districts centered on small business owners has been further strengthened.
An alley-type shopping district is designated for commercial areas with at least 15 stores within an area of 2,000 square meters or less, and can receive support equivalent to that for traditional markets under the Special Act on the Promotion of Traditional Markets and Shopping Districts. Practical growth drivers are provided, such as registration as an Onnuri Gift Certificate affiliate, business and facility modernization projects, and participation in various public projects.
The seven newly designated areas are: Gumi Station Central Alley-type Shopping District, Gumi City Agricultural Wholesale Market, Geumridan-gil, Daeha Shopping Center, Academy Shopping Center, Gold Tower, and Jinpyeong Food Culture Specialty Street.
In particular, as the commercial district near Gumi Station has now been incorporated into the official system, the area where Onnuri Gift Certificates can be used has expanded, and synergy with Saemaeul Central Market and Munhwaro Autonomous Commercial District is expected to increase. In addition, the opening of the Daegyeong Line is expected to boost foot traffic, further invigorating the commercial districts.
This expansion is the first achievement following Gumi City’s revision of its ordinance in October, which eased the designation criteria for alley-type shopping districts from '25 stores within 2,000 square meters (20 in non-commercial areas)' to '15 stores.'
As a result, even small-scale commercial districts that previously struggled to meet the criteria are now eligible for support, reducing blind spots in local economic revitalization.
Kim Jangho, Mayor of Gumi City, stated, "Alleyway commercial districts are the root of the local economy and important spaces where the daily lives of citizens unfold. We will continue to discover and nurture these districts, strengthening customized support so that small business owners can experience tangible benefits and so that the alleyway economy throughout Gumi regains its vitality."
With this expansion, Gumi City plans to further strengthen its support policies for small business owners, positioning alleyway commercial districts as a key pillar for local economic recovery and urban revitalization.
