Search and Rescue Efforts Continue for One Missing Worker
On the eighth day following the collapse at the Ulsan Thermal Power Plant, the body of another worker who had been trapped was recovered.
According to fire authorities, at approximately 1:18 a.m. on November 13, the body of a man in his 30s was found among the debris of the collapsed No. 5 boiler tower.
This man had been trapped during the accident on November 6, and his location was identified immediately. However, because he was inside the densely entangled steel structures within the debris, rescue efforts had not been successful until now.
To recover the body, fire authorities used a crane to secure the upper structure of the collapsed No. 5 tower, while rescue personnel removed steel structures from below to create a passageway.
As a result, the death toll among the seven workers trapped in the accident has risen to six. The victims include three men in their 60s, two in their 40s, and one in his 30s.
Fire authorities are continuing their search for the one remaining missing worker.
Previously, at 2:02 p.m. on November 6, the 63-meter-high No. 5 boiler tower at the Ulsan Thermal Power Plant collapsed, trapping seven of the nine workers who were present at the site at the time.
