The data war over 'future growth engines' has now begun at sea as well.
The Korea Maritime Institute (KMI), led by President Cho Jeonghee, is holding the 'AI Utilization Research Competition in the Marine and Fisheries Sector' from November 12 to December 5.
This competition analyzes major issues in the marine, fisheries, port, and shipping sectors using artificial intelligence (AI), and seeks to propose ways to utilize marine and fisheries data.
The event is open to the general public and invites participants to propose AI-based analytical research ideas on current issues in the marine and fisheries industry, such as climate change, population decline, and trade conflicts. All participants are required to comply with KMI's 'Guidelines for the Use of Generative AI.'
Through this competition, KMI aims to discover research methodologies that can apply AI technology to solving problems in the marine and fisheries sector, while also promoting responsible data usage and the spread of an ethical AI culture.
A total of seven winners will be selected, each receiving the President's Award from the Korea Maritime Institute. Applications must be submitted via the email address provided in the notice section of the KMI website.
Cho Jeonghee, President of KMI, stated, "AI is becoming a core tool for forecasting the future and supporting policy decisions in the marine and fisheries sector. We hope that this competition will serve as an opportunity to expand the AI-based research ecosystem in this field and to establish a culture of responsible AI utilization."
