Korea-U.S. Research Exchange and Cooperation Meeting to Be Held in New York on the 14th
Nationwide Roadshow Across the United States
The Ministry of Science and ICT has launched a roadshow to attract science, technology, and artificial intelligence (AI) talent from the United States.
On November 12, the Ministry announced that it will hold the "Korea-U.S. Research Exchange and Cooperation Meeting (Korea, a more attractive destination)" from November 14 to December 16, touring major U.S. cities, research-focused universities, and innovative companies. This is a full-scale local initiative to connect global talent in key future industries such as AI, semiconductors, biotechnology, and space with Korea.
This meeting has been organized in response to the global competition for technological supremacy, where countries are striving to secure high-level talent. Industry, academia, and research institutes are working together to attract outstanding overseas researchers and innovative talent, as well as to expand collaborative networks.
The event is hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity, with participation from more than 15 institutions, including the four major Institutes of Science and Technology, Pohang University of Science and Technology, government-funded research institutes, and KOTRA. Participants will have practical opportunities for collaboration, such as briefings on government researcher support policies, institution-specific consultations, and networking events linked to recruitment.
The Ministry of Science and ICT already held briefings in Boston and San Francisco in October. In November, events will be held in New York (14th), Pittsburgh (15th), and Atlanta (17th). In December, the Ministry will adopt an "On-Campus Roadshow" approach, visiting research-focused universities such as the University of Illinois and Purdue University in Chicago to expand direct engagement. After December, the initiative will further expand to innovation hubs such as Silicon Valley and Austin, Texas, to strengthen connections with companies.
The Ministry of Science and ICT has stated its intention to promote Korea not just as a country that invests in R&D, but as an attractive destination for research and work. Baek Kyunghoon, Vice Minister and Minister of Science and ICT, said, "This tour is the first step toward becoming a powerhouse in talent as well as technology," adding, "We will spare no effort to make Korea an appealing destination for researchers worldwide."
