On November 12, the Samsung Human Resources Development Center announced that it has introduced a next-generation training program this month that combines artificial intelligence (AI) and extended reality (XR) to overcome the limitations of traditional classroom-based education and provide an innovative, immersive learning experience. The core of this initiative is the use of the 'Galaxy XR,' a headset-type XR device developed by Samsung Electronics, in various training programs.

Samsung plans to actively utilize the Galaxy XR across all employee training, ranging from new hires to senior executives. This month, the company first applied AI and XR-powered content to five training courses: meditation, Samsung history experience, leadership, foreign languages, and debate. Trainees will wear the Galaxy XR and receive customized, topic-specific instruction in a virtual space, interacting intuitively through voice, gaze, and gestures.
In particular, the Galaxy XR enables 'virtual experiential training,' allowing participants to enter times and places that are difficult to access in reality. For meditation training, participants can meditate as if they are actually present in a virtual environment or in a space that faithfully recreates the natural scenery around the Samsung Yeongdeok Meditation Center. In the Samsung history experience training, trainees can travel back to the time and place of the company’s founding in 1938 and explore the company’s early days firsthand. Instead of simply watching videos or viewing photographs, learners can enter the space, look around in 360 degrees, and interact with their surroundings.
With the Galaxy XR, trainees can also engage in 'role-playing' exercises to practice various skills in realistic scenarios alongside AI avatars. This approach is directly applied to leadership, foreign language, and debate training. It offers a differentiated learning effect compared to role-playing led by human instructors or facilitators. In particular, the realistic XR environment and the personalized feedback enabled by AI technology set it apart. For example, learners can conduct one-on-one interviews with AI team members in various situations, have real conversations in foreign languages with AI avatars, or participate in pro-and-con debates moderated by an AI host.

Unlike traditional role-playing training, which is conducted with other trainees or instructors, practicing with AI avatars allows for unlimited, repeated practice in more realistic scenarios without the pressure of making mistakes. After completing a role-playing exercise, trainees can also receive immediate, personalized feedback and detailed reports through AI technology.
The Samsung Human Resources Development Center decided to introduce the Galaxy XR to maximize learning outcomes by providing highly immersive, experiential, and personalized training through the combination of AI and XR. The device is particularly optimized for 'multimodal AI,' which can simultaneously understand and process various types of information such as text, images, voice, and video.
The Samsung Human Resources Development Center expects that more than 20,000 employees annually will be able to enhance their work skills through AI and XR-integrated training using the Galaxy XR. Moving forward, the center plans to continue developing new AI and XR-related content and further advance existing content by incorporating feedback from an external advisory group of education and content experts, as well as from trainees. Additionally, it will collaborate continuously with Samsung Electronics to develop training content utilizing future next-generation XR devices.
