Jeong Dahee's "The People in the Closet" Wins Grand Prize
On the 8th, at the Digicon6 Asia Awards held in Tokyo, all three entries from Korea received awards.
Korean independent animation achieved a remarkable feat at Japan's Digicon6, Asia's largest short animation competition, with all of its entries receiving awards.
According to the Korea Creative Content Agency on November 12, all three Korean entries received awards at the Digicon6 Asia Awards held in Tokyo on November 8. Director Jeong Dahee's "The People in the Closet" won the Grand Prix, the highest honor. Director Jeong Yumi's "Glasses" received the Best Art Silver Award, and Director Jeon Youngchan's "Statue" won the Best Story Silver Award.
The awards ceremony, hosted by Japan's TBS, featured thirty-nine finalists from thirteen countries, including Korea, China, Singapore, and Iran, each having passed their respective national preliminaries.
The Korea Creative Content Agency held a separate screening in Tokyo the day before the awards ceremony to gauge local reactions in advance. The event drew significant attention, with Mirai Mizue, President of the Japan Animation Association, personally moderating a conversation with the directors. Local production companies and film festival officials unanimously praised the artistic quality and thematic depth of the Korean works.
The Korea Creative Content Agency selected these three entries from sixty-five submissions during a domestic competition in June. At the time, the judges commented, "This year's entries are so well-made that it is difficult to rank them. The directors' spirit of experimentation is particularly impressive."
Kim Wootak, Head of the Animation Industry Team at the Korea Creative Content Agency, stated, "Korean independent animation has grown beyond art to become a cultural asset attracting global attention," adding, "We will provide systematic support for the entire process, from creation to overseas expansion."
