Expecting a Surge in Tourists with Renovated Facilities and Improved Environment

Shinan County Completes Renovation of Island Mud Octopus Food Specialty Street Shinan County aims to increase tourist satisfaction through the revitalization of its food specialty street. Provided by Shinan County.

Shinan County in South Jeolla Province has renovated the aging facilities of the island's Mud Octopus Food Specialty Street, a local attraction, and has completed the creation of a pleasant environment for tourists.

Since being selected for the "Namdo Food Street Development Contest" by South Jeolla Province in 2017, the county has fostered the area around Songgong Port in Aphae-eup as a representative local food street by installing guide signs and an octopus-themed sculpture in 2019.

However, with six years having passed since completion, the promotional impact diminished as the sculptures and facilities became outdated. In response, the county took steps to revitalize the food specialty street by holding meetings with the merchants' association, providing hospitality training, and refurbishing key facilities such as repainting parking and guide signs.

A county official stated, "With this renovation, the island's Mud Octopus Food Specialty Street will regain its vibrancy," adding, "We will continue to improve and promote tourism infrastructure that highlights local characteristics so that this spot becomes a destination tourists want to revisit."
