Acting Prosecutor General and Justice Minister Reported Over 'Daejang-dong Appeal Withdrawal'

Conservative Groups File Complaints Alleging Abuse of Authority

On November 9, Norman Seok, Acting Prosecutor General, and others were reported to law enforcement by a conservative civic group in connection with the decision to forgo an appeal in the Daejang-dong case.

On this day, the People's Livelihood Countermeasures Committee (Seominwi) submitted a complaint to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency against Acting Prosecutor General Seok and Park Cheolwoo, Head of the Anti-Corruption Department at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, on charges including dereliction of duty, abuse of authority, obstruction of official business, and defamation.

Additionally, the complaint also named Minister Jeong Seongho, Vice Minister Lee Jinsu, Kim Hyeonji, First Secretary to the President, and Bong Wook, Senior Secretary for Civil Affairs, on charges of abuse of authority, obstruction of official business, and defamation. The reason cited was suspicions that the Ministry of Justice and the Office of the President were involved in the decision to forgo the appeal.

In the complaint, Seominwi argued that during the process of the prosecution's decision to forgo the appeal, they neglected duties required by the Constitution and the law, and abused their authority.

The previous day, Garosero Research Institute also filed a complaint against President Lee Jaemyung, Minister Jeong, Acting Prosecutor General Seok, and Jeong Jinwoo, Chief Prosecutor of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, on charges including abuse of authority, dereliction of duty, and violations of the Prosecutors' Office Act and the National Public Service Act.
