Theme Song Becomes First K-Pop Nominee in Grammy General Field Category
Hollywood actor Josh Brolin, well known for his role as Thanos in the Marvel "Avengers" series, has named the Netflix animated film "K-Pop Demon Hunters" as one of the most important movies of his life.
According to ABC in the United States on November 8 (local time), Brolin appeared on the late-night talk show "Jimmy Kimmel Live" on November 5 and shared his recent experience watching the film with his youngest daughter. Brolin explained, "A few days ago, on my 7-year-old daughter's birthday, my youngest wasn't feeling well, so I had to take her home. She didn't want to leave the party, but I persuaded her by suggesting we watch 'K-Pop Demon Hunters' together at home."
He continued, "Honestly, I didn't want to watch it at first, but as I watched until the end, I was so moved that I cried. I'm not joking-it's truly one of the best movies of my life," expressing his deep affection for the film. Brolin added, "I was able to get immersed in the movie right away, and the message came through very clearly."
However, his daughter's reaction was different. He said, "I was instantly drawn into the film, but my daughter said it was 'cringe.' I felt a bit hurt at that moment, but looking back now, I find it cute," he laughed.
Josh Brolin made his debut in the 1985 film "The Goonies," and has since established himself as a leading Hollywood actor through various works such as "No Country for Old Men," "American Gangster," "Men in Black 3," "Deadpool 2," and "Dune." He has two children with his first wife, Alice Adair, later married and divorced Diane Lane, and in 2016 married Kathryn Boyd, a former assistant, with whom he has two daughters.
"K-Pop Demon Hunters" is an animated film that tells the story of K-pop superstars Lumi, Mira, and Joi, who protect the world behind the scenes. The film has recently garnered significant attention in the music industry. Its theme song was nominated alongside BLACKPINK Ros?'s "APT." in the "General Field" category at the Grammy Awards, the most prestigious honor in American popular music. This is the first time a K-pop work has been nominated in this category.
Composer Lee Jae shared on social media, "I never imagined we would be nominated for a Grammy. It would have been impossible without the support of the fans." Ros? also expressed her gratitude, saying, "It's still hard to believe. This is a meaningful moment not just for me, but for many people."
