Foundation Honored at National Sharing Awards
Leading the Way in Promoting Hematopoietic Stem Cell Donation Culture
KB Life announced on November 7 that its foundation, the KB Life Insurance Social Contribution Foundation, received the Minister of Health and Welfare Award in the Life Donation category at the National Sharing Awards. The award recognizes the achievement of employees who have donated hematopoietic stem cells over the past 18 years, saving the lives of 28 people.
KB Life stated that it received the award at the 14th National Sharing Awards ceremony, which was held the previous day at KBS Art Hall in Yeouido, Seoul.
The foundation launched a hematopoietic stem cell donor registration campaign in 2007 as part of its anniversary project. Over the past 18 years, 1,305 employees and planners from KB Life and KB Life Partners have registered as potential donors, saving 28 lives.
Since 2020, the foundation has run a step-donation campaign using an online public interest platform. Through this initiative, it has provided 70 million won to cover hematopoietic stem cell transplant surgery costs and medical and educational expenses for children with intractable diseases.
Last year, in collaboration with the Korea Childhood Leukemia Foundation, the foundation provided 300 kits containing supplies for hospitalized children with leukemia.
To improve awareness of hematopoietic stem cell donation among younger generations, the foundation has hosted the “Good Project” contest since 2012. It has also operated the university student supporter group “Hematopoietic Stem Cell Friends,” conducting both online and offline campaigns to raise awareness about hematopoietic stem cell donation.
A foundation representative stated, “It is especially meaningful that this achievement was made possible through the participation of KB Life employees in hematopoietic stem cell donation,” adding, “We will continue to pursue sustainable social contribution activities to build a warm and inclusive local community.”
