Jung Chun-saeng, a member of the National Innovation Party, announced her candidacy for the Supreme Council on the 7th.
On this day, Assemblywoman Jung held a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Center and stated, "I am running for the Supreme Council to usher in a 'Springtime for the Nation.'
She declared, "I will take responsibility and push forward with tasks that the public wants but have been avoided due to fear of controversy, such as the Comprehensive Anti-Discrimination Act, the Life Partnership Act, the abolition of the abortion ban following the Constitutional Court's decision of unconstitutionality, and the introduction of a non-consensual sex crime law."
She also emphasized, "Without breaking the political structure of the 'two-party monopoly,' true local autonomy and grassroots politics are impossible," adding, "I will firmly lay the groundwork for establishing the fifth democratic government in the 2026 local elections."
Assemblywoman Jung previously sponsored the amendment to the Public Official Election Act to introduce the medium-sized constituency system and runoff voting for basic and metropolitan council members. In this regard, she stated, "If my political reform bill is institutionalized, the competent candidates of the National Innovation Party will be able to gain full support on a level playing field," adding, "I will make sure to bring that future closer."
Furthermore, she said, "My only 'backing' is the party members," and added, "I have stood with the nation since my days in the student movement, and I will continue to do so until the end."
She went on to stress, "I will devote all my experience and dedication, which helped elect Kim Dae-jung, Roh Moo-hyun, and Moon Jae-in as presidents, to the 'Springtime for the Nation.'"
