Gangneung City to Break Ground on 'Anmok Jukdobong Sky Valley' in November

Expectations High for Leap Toward a 'Four-Season Smart Tourism City'
Strengthening Coastal Tourism Infrastructure and Foundations
The long-awaited 'Anmok Jukdobong Sky Valley Development Project' for residents of Songjeong-dong in Gangneung City, Gangwon Province, will break ground in November.
This project, which was selected in 2023 as part of the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Tourism Resource Development Project, will establish a skywalk measuring 108 meters in length and 30 meters in height in the Jukdobong area of Gangneung City. The skywalk will provide panoramic views of major tourist attractions such as Anmok Beach, Namhangjin Beach, and Jukdobong.
Construction will begin this month and is expected to take about one year, with completion scheduled for 2026. The project aims to create a coastal tourism hub linking the popular Gangneung Coffee Street, which consistently attracts both domestic and international tourists, with the scenic Jukdobong area.
Notably, on October 27, Gangneung City and the 18th Fighter Wing of the Air Force signed a business agreement to officially launch the East Coast Coastal Scenic Road Project. Once the currently disconnected coastal road between Namhangjin and Anin is connected by 2030, the entire Gangneung City coastline will be linked. This will expand the marine tourism infrastructure and improve access to Anmok Jukdobong Sky Valley, further strengthening the city's tourism ecosystem by integrating urban and coastal areas, as well as experiences and relaxation opportunities for visitors.
After the skywalk is completed, Gangneung City plans to install observation decks and landscape lighting, improve walkways and guidance systems, and develop the Jukdobong area into a coastal tourism hub that can be enjoyed by both residents and visitors. The city also intends to enhance safety standards and advance the design to ensure the stability and sustainability of the facility.
Gangneung City Mayor Kim Honggyu stated, "The Anmok Jukdobong Sky Valley Development Project will become a new landmark for Gangneung tourism. Through the smooth implementation of this project, we will work to establish Gangneung as a four-season smart tourism city, solidifying its status as a leading tourist destination on the East Coast and contributing to the revitalization of the local economy."
