'2025 Information Security Industry Survey'
Information Security Industry Exports Also Up 11.4%
Last year, the domestic information security industry recorded sales of 18.5945 trillion won, a sharp increase of 10.5% compared to the previous year. Exports also rose by more than 11% during the same period, driven by the physical security sector.
On November 6, the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Information Security Industry Association (KISIA) announced the results of the "2025 Information Security Industry Survey," which included these findings.
By sector, sales in information security rose by 15.9% year-on-year to 7.1244 trillion won, while physical security increased by 7.3% to 11.4701 trillion won.
Within the information security sector, joint infrastructure security solutions (759.6 billion won, up 37.3%) and endpoint security solutions (768 billion won, up 35%) showed significant growth. In the physical security sector, sales increased for security cameras (2.4612 trillion won, up 8.9%) and security equipment components (875.7 billion won, up 143.1%).
The total number of information security companies reached 1,780, up 4.2%. Of these, information security companies numbered 876, a 7.8% increase from the previous year, and physical security companies numbered 904, up 1.1% year-on-year.
The number of employees also increased. A total of 66,367 people worked in information security companies, up 10.0% from the previous year. Among them, the number of information security professionals was 23,987, a modest increase of 0.2%, while the number of physical security professionals surged by 16.6% to 42,380 during the same period.
Last year, total exports in the industry amounted to 1.8722 trillion won, an 11.4% rise from the previous year. Exports in the information security sector fell by 15.9% to approximately 124.2 billion won, which is attributed to a decline in related solution exports due to increased investment in cloud security by global big tech companies. In contrast, the physical security sector posted exports of 1.748 trillion won, up 14.1% year-on-year, driven by strong growth in exports of security equipment components.
Choi Woo-hyuk, Director General for Network Policy at the Ministry of Science and ICT, stated, "With the rapid spread of new security environments such as AI-enabled systems and zero trust-based security frameworks, the information security industry is at a pivotal turning point, where it must simultaneously pursue new technology development, professional workforce training, and institutional and regulatory improvements." He added, "Through this survey, which serves as an important basis for setting policy directions, we will contribute to strengthening the industry's competitiveness."
