Gangwon Assemblyman Jaeung Jeong Urges Complete Restructuring of Jungdo Tourism Complex Development Plan

Foundation Needed to Create Synergy with Legoland

Jaeung Jeong, a member of the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Provincial Assembly (Chuncheon 5, Democratic Party of Korea), asserted at the administrative audit of the Jungdo Development Corporation held on November 5 that "the development plan for the Jungdo Integrated Tourism Complex needs to be completely restructured."

Assemblyman Jeong pointed out that the current focus on developing a tourism complex centered on Legoland is insufficient to guarantee profitability. He criticized Jungdo Development Corporation for merely observing the rise in land prices resulting from the construction of Seomyeon Bridge and the Chuncheon Lake Local Garden project, without seriously considering the overall direction of the project.

Assemblyman Jeong stated, "Rather than prioritizing a plan to resell the land, the comprehensive plan for the Jungdo Integrated Tourism Complex should be restructured so that various tourism facilities can create synergy together with Legoland. For this, negotiations with Merlin Entertainments are necessary, and if a change in land use is required, it should be implemented."

He further remarked, "If land prices rise in the future due to projects such as Seomyeon Bridge and the Lake Local Garden, the business profitability will actually decrease, and the incentives for investment will disappear. In such a situation, where this could hinder the land resale process, it is necessary to devise investment incentives that can compensate for this."

In conclusion, Assemblyman Jeong requested that Jungdo Development Corporation explore various measures to ensure that the land is not simply sold as commercial facilities according to the current plan, but can fulfill its role as an integrated tourism destination.
