Total Prize Pool of 60 Million Won

Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province has attracted over 800 applicants for its artificial intelligence (AI) contest, which is the largest of its kind ever planned by a local government.

On November 4, Hwaseong City announced that 832 people had registered for the preliminary application of the “2025 Hwaseong Special City AI Contest - Hwaseong Wasseong.” The city will conduct the main registration for these preliminary applicants until November 16.

The contest, held under the theme “My Hwaseong, Completed by AI,” invites participants to create new content using AI technology based on videos or images taken at major tourist attractions or landmarks in Hwaseong City.

The prize pool is also unprecedented for a basic local government contest, totaling 60 million won. The grand prize winner will receive a prize of 10 million won.

Participants must submit their entries online through the official contest website. The city will review and publicly verify the submissions, and announce the winners on December 12.

The contest is divided into two categories: ▲ Video (30-45 seconds) and ▲ Image (single cut). Participants are required to create their works using AI technology, based on videos, images, or photos they have personally taken.

The judging will focus on four criteria: creativity, relevance to the theme, effective use of AI technology, and promotional value. For each category, a grand prize, top excellence award, and excellence award will be selected. Additionally, the city has established the “I’m a Star Hwaseong Influencer Award,” which will recognize 15 works based on YouTube views and SNS ‘likes.’

The winning works will be used as non-commercial promotional content for three years and will be distributed nationwide through the city’s official YouTube channel, social media accounts, and smart administration display platforms.

Hwaseong Mayor Jeong Myeonggeun stated, “AI is not something to be feared, but a useful tool that everyone can use and enjoy in daily life. I hope each citizen will freely express the present and future of Hwaseong they hold in their hearts through AI.”

Previously, the city held the first-ever AI·CF contest among local governments last year, which received 229 video entries and 790 image entries, totaling 1,019 submissions.
