Expanding Community Pride Through Resident-Driven Events
Dongjak District in Seoul (Mayor Ilha Park) is holding the “Discover Our Neighborhood’s Charm Challenge” for one month starting from October 29 to commemorate Local Autonomy Day. This event was organized to mark the 30th anniversary of local self-governance, offering residents an opportunity to directly share and communicate the unique attractions of their community.
Participation is open until November 28 through the official Dongjak District blog. After subscribing to the blog, participants can enter by leaving a comment of at least two lines on the event post, introducing Dongjak District’s attractions such as local landmarks, outstanding policies, or exemplary residents. After writing the comment, participants must submit their neighborhood name, real name, contact information, proof of subscription, and a screenshot of their comment via Naver Form to complete their entry.
The district plans to use this event to spread empathy and participation in local governance by encouraging residents to share their own discoveries, such as popular restaurants, alleyways, convenient local policies, and heartwarming stories.
The results will be announced on December 4. The neighborhood with the highest participation will receive snacks worth 300,000 won. The top 10 participants by number of likes will each receive a mobile gifticon worth 10,000 won, and 40 general participants will each receive a mobile gifticon worth 5,000 won.
Ilha Park, Mayor of Dongjak District, stated, “This challenge will be a meaningful forum for communication where residents take the lead in rediscovering the charms of their neighborhood and sharing their stories with one another. We will continue to pursue open administration centered on resident participation.”
