Marble Everywhere and Gleaming Gold: Trump Unveils Remodeled White House Bathroom

Toilet, Sink, and Bathtub Revealed on Trump’s Social Media
White House: "No Cost Passed on to Taxpayers"

U.S. President Donald Trump released a photo of the remodeled 'Lincoln Bathroom' in the White House, featuring glossy marble and gold-colored handles.

On October 31 (local time), President Trump posted 24 before-and-after photos of the White House's Lincoln Bathroom renovation on his own social media platform, Truth Social, stating, "I have redecorated the Lincoln Bathroom in the White House." The released photos show that the toilet, sink, shower, and bathtub are all finished with what appears to be glossy marble, and feature gold-colored handles, hinges, showerheads, and faucets.

President Trump said, "This bathroom was remodeled in the 1940s with Art Deco-style green tiles, which do not match the Lincoln era at all," adding, "I chose polished black and white Statuario marble." He further claimed that this style is highly appropriate for the Abraham Lincoln era and that the marble used might even have been the same type actually used at the time.

President Trump had previously announced in August his plans to remodel and renovate the White House. At that time, he stated that the costs would be covered by his presidential salary and privately raised donations. A White House spokesperson said, "The funds needed for the remodeling of the White House banquet hall and bathrooms are being privately sourced," adding, "There will be no financial burden passed on to taxpayers."

The Washington Post reported that, traditionally, White House renovation plans are subject to prior review by the White House Preservation Committee, established in 1964, but it is unclear whether President Trump consulted the committee this time.

President Trump is also well-known for his affinity for gold. He replaced the decor and sculptures in the Oval Office with gold accents and substituted the Rose Garden lawn with white stone paving. This month, part of the East Wing was demolished to make way for the construction of a large banquet hall. The East Room, where major White House events are held, originally accommodates about 200 seats, and the total area of the main White House building, excluding the East Wing and West Wing, is approximately 5,110 square meters. The White House stated that the new banquet hall currently under construction will have a minimum area of 8,361 square meters and can accommodate more than 650 seats.
