"Trump Should Just Stay in Korea and Be King"...U.S. Talk Shows Spotlight Gold Crown Gift

Major U.S. Talk Shows Criticize Trump
"Trump, Do You Want to Be Treated Like a King?"

In honor of the Korea-U.S. summit, the model of the Cheonmachong gold crown presented by President Lee Jaemyung to U.S. President Donald Trump has become a hot topic in the United States as well. On the 29th (local time), leading talk show hosts such as Jimmy Kimmel of ABC, Seth Meyers of NBC, and Stephen Colbert of CBS all mentioned the gold crown and satirized President Trump.

'Late Night' host Seth Meyers remarked, "President Trump enjoys special treatment and is having a great time in Asia," adding, "As soon as the cameras were off, he asked, 'Can I try on the gold crown?' Of course, there is always the risk of incurring the wrath of a long-dead king when you put on an ancient crown." Meyers continued, "He desperately wants royal treatment and wishes to receive the same at home," pointing out, "That is why he genuinely envies China's authoritarian government."

Previously, in February, President Trump announced the abolition of New York City's congestion pricing system and shared a fake Time magazine cover featuring himself wearing a crown with the phrase 'Long Live the King' on the official White House social media account, sparking controversy. In response, protests under the slogan 'No Kings' have recently spread across the United States, condemning President Trump's authoritarian rule.

'Jimmy Kimmel Live' host Jimmy Kimmel commented, "Everywhere President Trump goes now, countries are giving him gifts to make him feel good. The gift from Korea, in particular, is the highlight," referencing the gold crown. He added, "After seeing the 'No Kings' protests in the U.S., where millions have shouted that they don't want a king, the Korean government must have thought a jewel-encrusted crown would make the perfect present." Kimmel criticized, "It's truly embarrassing how easily the president can be manipulated-it's like handing Pok?mon cards to children." He continued, "Why not just stay there and try being a king? Though, that probably wouldn't be good for them."

'The Late Show' host Stephen Colbert began by saying, "I'm not trying to say the Koreans were flattering Trump," and then joked, "But they did give President Trump the one thing he's missing-a big golden crown." Colbert also mentioned that President Trump ordered a hamburger and requested extra ketchup at his hotel, the Gyeongju Hilton, quipping, "The Koreans literally made him the Burger King," drawing laughter from the audience. He also referenced the seating arrangement at the special summit dinner hosted by President Lee, where Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney was seated across from President Trump. The two leaders are currently at odds over tariff issues.

Meanwhile, 'The Tonight Show' host Jimmy Fallon remarked, "Today, President Trump arrived in Korea, the final stop on his Asia tour," adding, "He must have asked President Lee a lot of questions, and the first was probably, 'What kind of demon hunter are you?'" This was a joke referencing the globally popular Netflix animation 'K-Pop Demon Hunters.'
