PPP Holds Emergency Meeting Before Treason Special Prosecutor... "Choo Kyungho Summons Is Attempt to Destroy the Party"

On the 30th, the People Power Party strongly condemned the summoning and investigation of Assemblyman Choo Kyung-ho by the special prosecutor for treason, calling it "an attempt to label the party as a treasonous force and destroy it." Assemblyman Choo, who was the floor leader during the 12·3 Martial Law, appeared before Special Prosecutor Jo Eun-seok for questioning on this day.

Jang Donghyuk, leader of the People Power Party, criticized at an emergency on-site party meeting held in front of Special Prosecutor Jo Eun-seok’s office at the Seoul High Court, saying, "The special prosecutor wields a handleless blade, unaware that he is destroying himself, and continues this ruthless investigation. The special prosecutor appointed by the Lee Jaemyung administration has already reached the end of its lifespan."

Targeting the three major special prosecutors launched in June-on treason, Kim Keonhee, and the Marine Corps-Jang dismissed their efforts, saying, "The three special prosecutors are trying to create a tiger by gathering a few specks of dust from a thousand miles away, but they will not even be able to make a mouse’s tail."

Regarding the vote to lift martial law, he stated, "The right to vote in the National Assembly is the most fundamental authority granted to each lawmaker by the Constitution. It is not possible to judge this retrospectively through the courts." He continued, "Even though the quorum had already been met, the vote was delayed to wait for then-leader Lee Jaemyung to arrive. What did the People Power Party block, and what could it have blocked?"

Jang added, "What the people want is a special prosecutor to investigate the special prosecutor. The party that should have been dissolved long ago is the Democratic Party of Korea." He repeatedly urged the immediate resumption of the five trials involving President Lee Jaemyung.

Song Eonseok, floor leader of the People Power Party, also joined in, saying, "This 'fabricated special prosecutor,' determined to annihilate the opposition, is trying to strangle the very life out of Korean democracy."

Song claimed, "They are making the absurd argument that a minority party with 107 seats obstructed the lifting of martial law. This is a fabricated investigation that is trying to force a plausible narrative at any cost."

He went on to say, "Those who want to appoint Supreme Court justices to suit their own tastes, those who want to create a system of personal favoritism not found in the Constitution-these are the real treasonous forces. Those who, through legislative power, have created the so-called 'economic guillotine law' that encourages unlimited illegal strikes by labor unions are the true treasonous forces."

Addressing Special Prosecutors Jo Eun-seok and Min Jungki, he criticized, "You may be rewarded for your loyalty to the administration with a seat on the Supreme Court or a nomination, but do you really want to go down in history as criminals and accomplices in the destruction of democracy?"

People Power Party lawmakers chanted slogans such as "Stop illegal investigations, political offensives, and special prosecutor investigations," and "The people are outraged by illegal oppression and political retaliation."

On this day, Assemblyman Choo appeared as a suspect on charges of abuse of power and performing key tasks related to treason. Before entering the Seoul High Prosecutors’ Office building, Choo told reporters, "I will not yield to this ruthless political oppression and will stand up to it with dignity." He continued, "On the day martial law was declared, after speaking with the Prime Minister and the President, I changed the location of the party meeting from the party headquarters to the National Assembly and moved there with the other lawmakers. If I had intended to obstruct the vote in collusion with the President, why would I have left the party headquarters and moved to the National Assembly?" denying the allegations.

Through social media, he also stated, "At this very moment, when the eyes of the world are on Korea due to the APEC summit, it is truly deplorable that oppression of the opposition and political retaliation are taking place in this country."
