Integrating Communication, Learning, and Startup Functions as an Urban Regeneration Hub
The Yongin Jungang Market Second Public Parking Lot, located in Gimnyangjang-dong, Cheoin-gu, Yongin City, Gyeonggi Province, will be reborn as an urban regeneration hub equipped with advanced smart features.
On October 30, Yongin City announced that it had selected the proposal submitted by Woosung Architects & Engineers as the winning design in the competition for the "Gimnyangjang Smart Work Platform Development Project."

This project is part of the Jungang-dong urban regeneration initiative in Cheoin-gu. It involves expanding the existing public parking lot at 137-1 Gimnyangjang-dong into a nine-story above-ground complex public facility. The project is led by the city and is being implemented by Yongin Urban Corporation as the entrusted operator.
The winning design includes a plan to expand the public parking lot and connect it to the existing building. Through this, the space was designed to enhance accessibility and revitalization, integrating community, learning, and startup functions to create a complex facility for multiple generations.
A total of 34.8 billion won will be invested in the project. The city plans to complete the design phase by 2027, begin construction, and finish the project by December 2029.
The Smart Work Platform will be developed as a complex public facility that combines advanced smart technology with urban regeneration. The first and second floors will feature the "Smart Lounge," an indoor plaza-style rest area and community space open to market visitors and citizens. The third to fifth floors will be used as parking spaces.
The sixth to ninth floors will house facilities to foster a new consumer culture and job ecosystem, including a youth startup support area, a lifelong learning center, and additional rest areas.
The city expects that, once the project is completed, it will contribute to supporting youth startups, revitalizing the commercial district around Jungang-dong, and alleviating parking shortages.
Lee Sangil, Mayor of Yongin, stated, "The 'Smart Work Platform' will become an innovation hub where young people and local merchants grow together," adding, "We will make this project a model case of sustainable urban regeneration that citizens can truly experience."
