"I finally brought in a bed and slept for 20 hours
I will continue to work hard without losing my original intention"
A man in his twenties, who had been living in his car for over a year after falling victim to a "jeonse fraud" six years ago, shared his story after being selected for a rental housing unit.
Recently, Mr. A, who introduced himself as being in his late twenties, posted a review titled "Youth Purchase Rental Housing (Cheongmaeip) Selection Experience" on an online community that shares housing information.
Mr. A said, "After I was scammed out of my jeonse deposit in Suwon, I lived in my car for nearly a year and a half. On the 12th, I completed the contract for my rental housing and moved in right away," adding, "Even after moving, I had exams, so I practically lived in a study cafe for a few days. Today, I finally brought in a bed and slept for 20 hours."
Mr. A shared his past, explaining that he had to live on the streets after falling victim to the jeonse fraud. He said, "I threw away all my belongings, took only a few clothes, and lived in my car with my cat. I showered at the gym and drank water and charged my phone at the study cafe," adding, "Summer was the hardest, but I endured it to pay off my debt."
He also shared that his parents divorced when he was young, and although he lived with his grandmother, she passed away after being admitted to a nursing hospital when he was 20. Mr. A said, "My grandmother's house was built on state-owned land, so it was demolished," and added, "I am experiencing firsthand how the environment shapes a person. I will not lose my resolve and will continue to work hard."
Netizens left supportive comments in response to Mr. A's story, such as "Whatever you do, you'll do well. Cheering for you," "You're an amazing person. I hope only good things happen for you from now on," and "Your mental strength is impressive. Thank you for not losing hope."
