Hanwha Partners with U.S. HavocAI to Target the Unmanned Maritime Systems Market

Solidifying Technological Collaboration Through On-Site Inspection and Remote Demonstration
Initiating Efforts to Lead and Cooperate in the Global Maritime AI Market

Hanwha has partnered with the U.S.-based artificial intelligence (AI) autonomous navigation solution company to take the first step toward securing a foothold in the global unmanned maritime systems market. Ahead of formalizing their technological collaboration, Hanwha conducted an on-site inspection at the Hanwha Ocean Geoje plant, moving to solidify the partnership.

On October 29, Hanwha announced that it had held a meeting with HavocAI, a U.S. company, to evaluate both companies' technological capabilities in preparation for cooperation on autonomous navigation and remote operation technologies for maritime unmanned systems. According to Hanwha, Paul Lwin, CEO of HavocAI, and his research team visited the Hanwha Ocean Geoje plant the previous day to assess Hanwha's capabilities in shipbuilding and maritime systems. During the visit, Hanwha demonstrated the remote control technology for HavocAI's unmanned surface vessel (USV), which was stationed off the coast of Hawaii. Hanwha described the meeting with HavocAI as a foundational step toward proactively entering the global unmanned maritime systems market, including the United States, and strengthening effective collaboration.

Previously, Hanwha Systems and Hanwha Ocean, which oversee Hanwha Group's naval defense business, entered the U.S. market last year by acquiring the Philly Shipyard. Hanwha expects to combine Hanwha Ocean and Hanwha Systems' system integration expertise with HavocAI's autonomous navigation software to deliver tangible products and solutions. The company also plans to provide autonomous navigation solutions applicable to both defense and commercial sectors, aiming to improve operational efficiency and reduce maintenance costs.

Paul Lwin, CEO of HavocAI, stated, "By combining Hanwha Group's expertise in maritime systems and shipbuilding with HavocAI's autonomous navigation capabilities, we can expand the utility of existing vessels while rapidly deploying new unmanned systems." Yoo Moonki, Head of Hanwha Systems' Naval Business Division, commented, "Based on our competencies in combat systems for naval vessels, maritime platform integration, and synergy with group affiliates, Hanwha Systems will do its utmost, together with HavocAI, to accelerate entry into the global unmanned maritime systems market, including the United States."
