A Gourmet Festival Showcasing the Flavors and Stories of the Islands
Yeosu City, South Jeolla Province (Mayor Chung Kimyung), announced on October 28 that it will host the '2025 Yeosu Island Michelin Festa' at the Expo Digital Gallery in the Yeosu World Expo Center on November 1.
'Seomchelin' is a compound word combining 'island' and 'Michelin,' meaning 'the ultimate island food guide.' This new gourmet festival will feature exhibitions, hands-on experiences, and performances centered around Yeosu's unique island cuisine and pristine ingredients.
During the festival, a variety of programs will be offered, including island food exhibitions and tastings, a food talk show, a traditional liquor pairing show, a coffee demonstration, hands-on island food making experiences, and the Seomseom Food Market.
In particular, the 'Food Talk Show' featuring Chef Raymond Kim will showcase dishes made with island ingredients together with local young chefs. Around 50 pre-selected citizen tasting panelists will have the opportunity to sample the food and experience the flavors and stories of the islands firsthand.
At the 'Geomundo Sea Breeze Mugwort Coffee Demonstration' by national champion roaster Joo Sunghyun and the traditional liquor pairing show, visitors can discover new charms of island ingredients through the expertise of professionals. In addition, the hands-on zone, organized by the Yeosu branch of the International Slow Food Korea Association, local masters, and Hanyeong University, will offer programs where participants can make island dishes themselves.
Other events will include street performances such as 'Dancing Bear Random Dance,' magic shows, and bubble shows. At the same venue, the 'One-Stop Creative Support Project Art Festa' and the 'Hanmaeum Art Drawing Contest' will also take place, creating a festival that harmonizes gourmet experiences and the arts.
The city plans to operate this festival as an eco-friendly event by implementing zero-waste practices, such as using reusable containers and minimizing disposable products, thereby promoting the image of 'Clean Yeosu, Healthy Island.'
Mayor Chung Kimyung stated, "The Yeosu Island Michelin Festa is a festival where you can taste and enjoy the island's unique gourmet culture," and added, "We hope that many citizens and tourists will visit with their families and friends to experience the flavors and stories of the islands."
