"Suspected Defects in Some Trains... Preemptive Measures for Safety"
20 out of 62 Daily Services to Terminate at Daegok Station
Updated Timetables Available on the KORAIL Website
Starting from October 28, some West Sea Line (Wonsi-Daegok-Ilsan) trains will only operate up to Daegok Station instead of Ilsan Station due to suspected defects in train components. The exact date for resuming normal operations has not been determined.
KORAIL announced on October 27 that, out of the 62 daily West Sea Line electric train services running between Wonsi Station in Ansan City and Ilsan Station in Goyang City, 20 will terminate at Daegok Station. The number of trains running to Ilsan Station will decrease to 42. The total number of train services will remain unchanged.
This measure follows an incident on October 22, when a suspected coupler defect was detected as a West Sea Line electric train was moving from the Siheung Depot to Ansan Station on Line 4, causing morning rush hour trains to be delayed by 10 to 40 minutes.
The West Sea Line, constructed as a private investment project, currently operates 17 state-owned train sets. Of these, suspected component defects have been identified in 10 sets, which are now undergoing defect resolution under the supervision of the National Railroad Authority.
As an emergency measure, since October 24, KORAIL has been operating trains at reduced speeds (below 40 km/h) between Wonsi and Daegok. In particular, the section between Daegok and Ilsan, which has a ballast track, is considered more prone to increased train shaking. Therefore, starting tomorrow, trains suspected of having defects will no longer be operated on this section as a preemptive measure to prevent further incidents.
To minimize inconvenience for passengers, KORAIL has posted notices in stations and increased the number of staff providing on-site guidance. Detailed timetables can be found on the KORAIL website.
A KORAIL official stated, "There may be inconveniences for passengers such as increased intervals between trains," and added, "We ask for your understanding, as this is an unavoidable measure to ensure the safety of the public using the railway."
