Contributing to the Expansion of Local Culture and National Heritage
Yeongdeok County in North Gyeongsang Province successfully concluded the final program of the 2025 Lively National Heritage Project, titled "Defend the Nation! Wolwolicheongcheong, General Park, and General Shin," on October 25 at the birthplace of General Shin Dolseok.
The Lively National Heritage Project aims to strengthen the capacity to discover, preserve, and utilize outstanding national heritage sites across the country. Yeongdeok County has been conducting the project in 13 sessions since June 14.
The program held on October 25 was organized to honor General Park Uijang, who played a key role during the Japanese invasions of Korea and served as the Naval Commander of Gyeongsang Province, and General Shin Dolseok, known as the "Tiger of Taebaeksan" and a leader of the anti-Japanese militia. The event featured Yeongdeok Wolwolicheongcheong, a local intangible cultural heritage designated by North Gyeongsang Province.
Approximately 130 participants, including staff and students from Yeongdeok Yaseong Elementary School, took part in the program. The event included storytelling, theatrical performances, a simplified Yeongneung Uijin experience, K-Culture Demon Hunters, and hands-on activities with Yeongdeok Wolwolicheongcheong, providing an opportunity to learn about the value of local historical and cultural heritage and the importance of its preservation.
Yeongdeok County, which was selected for this project for the first time this year, plans to continue it through next year, offering more opportunities to experience local historical and cultural assets and further raising public interest in cultural heritage.
County Governor Kim Kwangyeol stated, "Through the Lively National Heritage Project, we will create opportunities to experience Yeongdeok's precious cultural heritage and showcase new aspects of tradition. We will implement various support measures and programs so that both local residents and tourists can share and enjoy cultural heritage with unique local value."
