Korea-Cambodia Summit Held on the 27th
Prime Minister Hun Manet: "Crime Eradication Is a Top Priority"

On the 27th, President Lee Jae-myung held a summit meeting with Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia and stated, "Due to scam crimes in Korea, our citizens are extremely sensitive at the moment," adding, "I sincerely thank the Cambodian authorities for their special consideration toward Korean nationals."
President Lee made these remarks during a summit with Prime Minister Hun at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Summit is taking place. President Lee emphasized, "I hope that under your outstanding leadership, Cambodia will continue to develop," and added, "I look forward to a new and higher level of cooperation between Korea and Cambodia, different from what we have now."
In response, Prime Minister Hun said, "Recently, there was the unfortunate incident of a Korean university student dying in Cambodia. I offer my deepest condolences," and explained, "The Cambodian police did not stand by idly. They immediately investigated and apprehended the perpetrators." He further added, "The Cambodian government places a very high priority on eradicating transnational crimes such as human trafficking and drugs."
Prime Minister Hun stated, "I do not wish to blame others," but insisted, "Countries in the region must work together." He continued, "We are in contact with Korean expatriates in Cambodia and are listening to their concerns," and added, "We are also paying attention to their wishes and the issues they hope to resolve."
President Lee and Prime Minister Hun reaffirmed their commitment to bilateral cooperation. President Lee remarked, "Cambodia and Korea share many similar historical experiences," and said, "Although Korea is one step ahead, we will strive to become a new model for Cambodia and make significant contributions to Cambodia's development."
Prime Minister Hun responded, "The well-being of Koreans in Cambodia is a very high priority for me," and expressed gratitude, saying, "I thank the Korean government for its considerable support for Cambodia's national development." He also requested, "I hope to attract more investors from Korea in the future."
