Culture Ministry Hosts Forum on International Exchange in the Cultural Industry with APEC Youth

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, together with the Korea Foundation for International Cultural Exchange, will hold the "Forum on the Future of the Cultural Industry and International Exchange" under the theme "Culture, Connecting the World" at the Modu Art Theater on the afternoon of October 27.


This event has been organized to explore the economic value of the cultural industry in light of the "2025 Gyeongju Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit" and to discuss ways to foster cultural industry cooperation led by the next generation. First Vice Minister Kim Youngsoo of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will attend the event to hear the voices of young people from APEC member economies regarding the cultural industry.

The first session will feature broadcaster and entrepreneur Mark Tetto, as well as Lee Nakjoon, the author of the original web novel for the Netflix series "Severe Trauma Center: Golden Hour." Under the theme "Korean Culture Resonates with the World," they will have a conversation about the appeal of K-culture from the perspectives of a collector who loves Korean culture and a creator who crafts stories.


Next, Choi Kyungkyu, Professor of Business Administration at Dongguk University and the fourth President of the Korea APEC Society, will address "The Value of the Cultural Industry and Institutionalization of the APEC Cultural Industry." He will highlight new connections between the creative cultural industry and cultural influence, and review the significance of the inaugural "APEC High-Level Dialogue on the Cultural Industry" held this year, as well as the direction of international cooperation in the cultural industry. Xiong Chengyu, former Professor of Communication at Tsinghua University, will analyze the trends and future growth potential of the cultural industry under the theme "The Creative Cultural Industry as a New Driver of Economic Growth."


In the second session, Vice Minister Kim Youngsoo will engage in a discussion with young people from APEC member economies. The session will be moderated by broadcaster Christian Burgos (Mexico), known for his appearance on the JTBC variety show "Non-Summit." Broadcasters Saori Fujimoto (Japan), Terris Brown (United States), as well as young participants from Korea, China, Vietnam, and Malaysia will share their vivid experiences and perspectives on the cultural industry and K-culture from the viewpoint of the next generation.


Vice Minister Kim Youngsoo stated, "The Korean government plans to foster culture as a key driver of future economic cooperation, as demonstrated by hosting the first-ever APEC High-Level Dialogue on the Cultural Industry this August," adding, "I hope this event will serve as a solid step toward expanding economic opportunities for future generations and further enhancing international cooperation through the cultural industry."


This event will be broadcast live through the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's YouTube channel.
