Goseong to Launch 'Artcation Festa' on October 24-25
A 42-Day Journey Created by Artists and Residents
Highlights Include Theater Troupe Root's 'Myeongtaenori' and Guest Performance by Band 'Yangbandeul'
The Goseong Cultural Foundation in Gangwon Province (Chairman: Ham Myungjun) will host the 'Artcation Festa 2025' over two days from October 24 to 25 in the Myeongpa Village area.
This year’s event, themed 'Myeongpa, a Village Where Art Resides,' will be an opportunity to share the 42-day creative journey jointly undertaken by artists and residents.
The festival will feature eight young external artists and four local artist teams, who have drawn inspiration from Myeongpa’s nature, history, and the lives of its residents to present a variety of artistic activities, including performances, installations, visual arts, community theater, and participatory workshops. Through this process, the Goseong Cultural Foundation experimented with how artists’ creative work can blend into the daily life of the village.
On the first day, October 24, an 'Internal Exchange Day' will take place, bringing together Goseong County officials, local artists, Myeongpa residents, and participating artists. The opening round will feature the sharing of the artists’ residency achievements and creative processes, followed by exhibitions, performances, and a community play, culminating with a play by the theater troupe 'Root.' On this day, village residents will be invited to share food together, transforming all of Myeongpa Village into an open space where art and hospitality come together.
On the second day, October 25, a 'small festival' will be held for residents and tourists to enjoy together. Creative workshops by each artist and collaborative exhibitions will take place throughout the village, and participatory programs will allow both residents and visitors to become directly involved in the art. At 2 p.m., the band 'Yangbandeul' will perform on the Myeongpa warehouse stage, further heightening the festive atmosphere.
'Artcation Goseong' aims to go beyond a simple residency program to become a sustainable cultural ecosystem model co-created by artists and residents. It offers new creative opportunities for external artists, invigorates collaboration for local artists, and provides residents with unique experiences where art and everyday life intersect.
A representative from the Goseong Cultural Foundation stated, "This festival is an experiment to showcase both the cultural potential of Goseong and the social value of art through Myeongpa, a village where art resides," adding, "We hope that this time, created together by artists and residents, will remain as a new cultural asset for Goseong."
