KEIMTECH, a company specializing in secondary battery components, announced on October 23 that it has completed the first shipment of prismatic can equipment for energy storage systems (ESS), accelerating its entry into the U.S. ESS market.
The equipment shipped is part of an 80 billion won (approximately 60 million USD) supply project for prismatic cans for the U.S. ESS market, which KEIMTECH signed with a global battery company in July. The equipment is currently being transported to a local plant located 150 miles east of Nashville, Tennessee, and installation and trial operations will begin immediately upon arrival.
KEIMTECH has already completed mass production and quality verification through assembly and sample pilot production in Korea. As a result, the company expects to transition to mass production in a short period after local installation. KEIMTECH plans to complete mass production validation by the end of December and begin full-scale supply. In addition, the company is simultaneously negotiating additional supply of the same product and large-scale projects based on this initiative. If negotiations are finalized within the year, the total supply volume is expected to exceed 200 billion won (approximately 150 million USD).
Separately, KEIMTECH is also discussing other projects. In particular, the company plans to begin discussions on a next-generation large prismatic can project, which will be more than twice the size of the current product.
According to global consulting firm Deloitte, the surge in power demand from AI data centers is accelerating the expansion of power infrastructure and the installation of ESS. The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in the United States also noted, "The U.S. is reducing its reliance on China in the battery supply chain and is strengthening reshoring and near-shoring of local production," adding, "With tighter regulations on Chinese-made components, global battery companies are working to secure production and assembly bases in North America." As a result, the U.S. ESS market is expected to enter a phase of structural growth focused on power infrastructure stability and supply chain independence.
A KEIMTECH official stated, "This project will be a significant turning point in securing a local production base in the U.S. ESS market," adding, "We will continue to expand cooperation with global clients and strengthen our presence in the North American market based on our proven mass production capabilities and competitive quality."
The official further explained, "This project is based on a main contract signed in July, and in accordance with the revised Korea Exchange disclosure standards, the announcement will be made when the actual purchase order (PO) is received," adding, "We are committed to transparent and reliable information disclosure."
