Providing a Safer Traffic Environment Through Structural Improvements
Jinhae District in Changwon Special City, South Gyeongsang Province, has officially begun construction to improve the structure of Eoeun Intersection in the area of 310-1, Jukgok-dong, in response to frequent vehicle confusion and traffic collisions caused by the intersection's irregular road design.
Eoeun Intersection has long been a source of ongoing complaints from residents and drivers due to its unreasonable structure, where the flows of straight and left-turning vehicles are intricately entangled, leading to confusion over vehicle paths and a heightened risk of traffic accidents. To address these issues, the district is investing 160 million won in a project to improve the intersection, following the recommendations of the police and the Korea Road Traffic Authority as reviewed by the Traffic Safety Review Committee in the second quarter.
The project includes: relocating and reorganizing the median strip and reducing the number of lanes from two to one on the northbound road toward the Jinhae District Office; improving the location and size of the traffic island and relocating the crosswalk; and installing colored pavement guidance lines for each direction of travel. Construction began in October alongside a disaster prevention technical consulting service, with completion scheduled for November.
Jinhyunseop, Mayor of Jinhae District, stated, "Eoeun Intersection has long been an area with a high risk of traffic accidents due to its road structure. Through this improvement project, we expect to provide a safer and more efficient traffic environment."
