[NGO Now] Korea Habitat: "Bithumb Donates Funds Raised for Independence Patriots Support Campaign"

Korea Habitat announced that, in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of Liberation, it received a donation of 40,981,000 won from the virtual asset exchange Bithumb through a participatory donation campaign aimed at improving the housing conditions of descendants of independence patriots. This campaign, which targeted Bithumb members, ran for about three weeks from August 11 to 31. Both new and existing members could easily participate by registering a donation code in the Bithumb app.


A Bithumb representative stated, "We organized this campaign so that our members could participate in meaningful sharing on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Liberation, and we are grateful for the high level of participation." The representative added, "We will continue to pursue various partnerships and social contribution activities as a company that grows together with society."

The Gyeongbuk Chapter of the Korean Red Cross (Chairman Kim Jaewang) announced on the 21st that Seungryong Lee, a military administrative officer in the Public Relations Office of the Army Cadet Military School, donated the entire grand prize of 10 million won he received at the 15th Korea National Defense Art Competition to support victims of the forest fire in Gyeongbuk.


While working at the Public Relations Office of the 50th Army Division in Daegu in March, Lee visited the site of the Gyeongbuk forest fire, capturing Army soldiers and firefighters working hard to extinguish the flames in his photo work "Traces of the Fire." This piece won the grand prize at the competition. After receiving the prize money, he said, "The people who inspired my work were the neighbors in the affected area, so I hoped this prize money would be used to help them again." He supplemented the amount with his own personal funds to cover taxes and donated the entire sum to the Korean Red Cross.

Good Neighbors (Director Kim Jeongmi) began recruiting participants for the "Good Neighbors Race" on September 22. This campaign is a sharing program designed to support vulnerable groups struggling with the climate crisis, with additional significance provided by sponsorship from companies such as Lotte Card, Teazen, Bellman, and Ganong. The participation fee is a monthly regular donation of 20,000 won, and all proceeds will be used first for the tree-planting project in Mongolia. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until November 30 and may close early. When applying, participants must set the delivery region for commemorative gifts to "Gyeonggi/Gangwon."

Hope Friends Korea Food for the Hungry International (Chairman Choi Changnam) announced that it held the "2025 CSR Connect Session" at the Community House Masil in Jung-gu, Seoul, on the 21st.


The event, under the theme "Companies Ask, Korea Food for the Hungry Answers," featured Youngjun Lee, head of the Global CSR Team at LG Chem, introducing the "Like Green" educational social contribution program, which has been promoted in partnership with Korea Food for the Hungry since 2021. The event also highlighted the "Zalpi Habitat Restoration Project" conducted in cooperation with the AI climate tech company Thanks Carbon. Following this, Jaewon Yoon, principal at Lotte Department Store, presented the "RE:JOICE" campaign, which supports women's psychological recovery and social independence.


In the second part, Minseok Kim, director of the Institute for Sustainable Development, delivered a keynote speech on the direction and necessity of collaboration in CSR in a changing environment. The Migration Background Business Team and the Global Impact Team at Korea Food for the Hungry shared their major ongoing projects, exploring the potential for expanding CSR collaboration. Chanwook Park, head of the ESG Sharing Division at Korea Food for the Hungry, commented, "It was a meaningful time to convey our sincerity, expertise, and reliability in solving social issues to our corporate partners as a CSR partner," adding, "We will continue to create sustainable social change with sincere partners in the future."
