Exploring the Future of the Arctic Route and Busan's Logistics Industry
The Korea Trade Association (President: Park Youngtae, Professor of Trade at Dong-Eui University) held the "50th Anniversary Autumn International Academic Conference" at Park Hyatt Busan on October 17.
The Korea Trade Association is holding a commemorative photo session at the 50th Anniversary Autumn International Academic Conference.
At the opening ceremony, key figures from industry, government, and academia-including Jeon Jaesu, Minister of Oceans and Fisheries; Park Hyungjun, Mayor of Busan; Ahn Byunggil, President of Korea Ocean Business Corporation; and Park Seongho, Commissioner of the Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone Authority-attended to offer their congratulations.
The conference was held under the theme "The Direction and Challenges of Smart K-Trade in the Global AI Era (III)," with the core agenda focusing on "Strategies for Advancing Busan's Logistics Industry as a Global Hub City and the Arctic Route."
During the keynote session, Jang Hayong, Ph.D. of the Busan Research Institute, presented on "Changes in the Ecosystem of Industries Related to the Arctic Route and Strategies to Strengthen Global Trade Hub Competitiveness," while Jung Youngdoo, Ph.D. of Korea Ocean Business Corporation, discussed "Pioneering the Arctic Route and Stabilizing Maritime Supply Chains."
At the subsequent Trade Promotion Awards ceremony, Lee Sutae, CEO of Panasia, received the award in the corporate category, and Jung Younghwa, Chief Customs Broker of Sindaedong Customs Corporation, was honored in the individual category. Both recipients were recognized for their dedicated efforts in enhancing national trade competitiveness and contributing to industrial development, even amid an uncertain global economy.
President Park Youngtae stated, "The uncertainty of the trade order is increasing as AI-based digital transformation intersects with geopolitical risks," adding, "This conference was a meaningful opportunity to explore strategies for supply chain stabilization using the Arctic Route and for Busan's leap as a global hub."
Founded in 1974, the Korea Trade Association is the largest academic society specializing in trade in Korea, with approximately 6,000 members currently active. It publishes the SSCI-listed English journal, Journal of Korea Trade (JKT), eight times a year, and the KCI-listed Korean journal of trade studies six times a year.
