Special Exhibition for the 2025 APEC Summit
"A Sustainable Tomorrow: Connection, Innovation, Prosperity"
Held at Solgeo and Wuyang Museums of Art in Gyeongju
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, together with the Korea Arts Management Service, will hold a special exhibition at the Solgeo Museum of Art and the Wuyang Museum of Art in celebration of the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit. This exhibition will encompass both the tradition and modernity of Korean art. Through the theme "A Sustainable Tomorrow We Create: Connection, Innovation, Prosperity," the exhibition will reinterpret these concepts through artistic language, demonstrating the expansiveness of Korean art in response to international discourse.
Solgeo Museum of Art Presents a Future Vision Based on Silla Culture and Aesthetics
The Solgeo Museum of Art will host the exhibition "Silla Hanhyang: The Fragrance of Korea Unfolding in Silla" from October 22, 2025, to April 26, 2026. Four artists-master of ink painting Park Daesung, Buddhist painting master Monk Songcheon, cultural heritage restoration expert Kim Min, and upcycling glass artist Park Sunmin-will each interpret the spirit of Silla and Buddhist aesthetics from their own perspectives, showcasing the harmony of tradition and modernity, as well as material and spirit.
Park Daesung is an artist who has led the globalization of Korean painting by reinterpreting traditional ink painting techniques in a contemporary manner, exploring the relationship between nature and humanity through form. Monk Songcheon continues to expand the techniques of traditional Buddhist painting into a modern visual language. Kim Min presents original paintings using gold and silver leaf and traditional pigments, resonating with the historical context of Gyeongju. Park Sunmin visually presents the cyclical relationship between environment and art through installations made from recycled glass.
Wuyang Museum of Art Explores the Relationship Among Technology, Art, and Humanity as Proposed by the Late Nam June Paik
Reopened in July 2025 after more than a year of renovation, the Wuyang Museum of Art is currently hosting the exhibition "Nam June Paik: Humanity in the Circuits," focusing on works from the 1990s. The late Nam June Paik regarded scientific technology not merely as a tool but as a medium for human expansion, establishing a worldview in which technology and art interact as an "organic circuit." This exhibition brings together major works that explore the relationship among technology, art, and humanity, including "My Faust-Economics" and "My Faust-Spirituality" from the "My Faust" series-pieces being unveiled for the first time after restoration. The exhibition provides a multifaceted view of Paik's work from the 1990s and offers an artistic platform to contemplate the "connection and innovation" advocated by APEC.
A policy official from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism stated, "We hope this special exhibition will serve as a meaningful occasion to highlight both the tradition and innovation of Korean art," adding, "As it will be held during the APEC Summit, we also hope it will serve as an opportunity to showcase the excellence and diversity of Korean art to the world."
