Omokdae and Jeonju Hanok Village Area
A Variety of Attractions Including Performance Stage and Photo Sessions
Jeonju City in North Jeolla Province will hold the "2025 Taejo Lee Seonggye Omokdae Festival" at 2 p.m. on October 25, in Omokdae and throughout the Jeonju Hanok Village area.
According to the city on October 20, this event is a traditional cultural festival inspired by a historical event that took place about 700 years ago, in September 1380 (the 6th year of King U of Goryeo), when Taejo Lee Seonggye defeated Japanese pirates at Hwangsan in Namwon and celebrated his victory at Omokdae in Jeonju Hanok Village.
On that day, the Hanok Village will host a series of events, including a Hwangsan Battle martial arts performance (in front of Gyeonggijeon), a victory parade (from Gyeonggijeon to Taejoro to Omokdae), and the Taejo Lee Seonggye Victory Commemoration Omokdae Festival (at Omokdae).
In particular, the victory parade, a comprehensive artistic procession featuring traditional martial arts, pansori, and creative dance, will involve more than 140 participants, including key historical figures such as Lee Seonggye, Lee Ji-ran, and Jeong Mong-ju, as well as Goryeo soldiers, pungmul troupes, and a marching band. The parade will start at the main gate of Gyeonggijeon, pass through the Eunhaeng-ro intersection and the Hanok Village rest area, and conclude at Omokdae.
The Taejo Lee Seonggye Victory Commemoration Omokdae Festival, held at Omokdae, will feature a variety of Korean cultural programs, including a traditional ritual, the Omokdae banquet and performance stage, and a photo session.
To maximize audience engagement and communication, the city will set up a large screen in the Gyeonggijeon Square and broadcast the entire event live through its YouTube channel.
No Eunyoung, Director of Culture, Sports, and Tourism at Jeonju City, stated, "We hope that both citizens and tourists will fully enjoy this event, which re-examines Jeonju's history and culture and honors the achievements of Taejo Lee Seonggye, the founder of the Joseon Dynasty. We also hope it will be a meaningful opportunity to experience Korean culture. Going forward, we will do our utmost to preserve and promote tradition and history as the birthplace of the Joseon Dynasty."
