The Education and Culture Committee of the Gwangju City Council (Chair Myeongjin) announced on the 19th that it attended the opening ceremony of the 106th National Sports Festival held at Busan Asiad Main Stadium on the 17th, cheering and encouraging the Gwangju athletes and event officials.
The opening ceremony began with a pre-event program, followed by the athletes' parade, the declaration of the opening, the hoisting of the festival flag, the opening address, the lighting of the torch, and congratulatory performances. Chair Myeongjin of the Education and Culture Committee and Councilor Jo Seokho attended the ceremony on behalf of the City Council.
This year's National Sports Festival runs until the 23rd, featuring 50 events with over 30,000 athletes from 17 cities and provinces. The Gwangju delegation is participating with a total of 1,439 people, including 1,071 athletes and 368 officials, competing in all 50 events.
Chair Myeongjin stated, "All Gwangju citizens will unite in support so that the athletes' hard work and dedication can bear fruit."
