"Telecom Companies Must Overhaul Information Security...
Also Urged to Foster the AI Ecosystem"
The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 17th that Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Paik Kyung-hoon held an emergency meeting with the chief executive officers (CEOs) and chief information security officers (CISOs) of telecommunications companies.
According to the Ministry of Science and ICT, Deputy Prime Minister Paik held a joint meeting with Yoo Young-sang, CEO of SK Telecom, and Hong Beom-sik, CEO of LG Uplus, as well as the CISOs of both companies, at a location in Seoul on this day.

During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Paik urged heightened vigilance regarding the recent hacking incidents and leaks of user information at telecommunications companies. He also requested that the companies make their own efforts to overhaul information security in order to restore public trust and prevent further hacking incidents.
He went on to emphasize the role of telecommunications companies in the era of artificial intelligence (AI), calling for investment in AI infrastructure and the provision of AI services that the public can tangibly experience.
Deputy Prime Minister Paik stated, "Telecommunications companies operate core infrastructure used by all citizens, so they bear a heavy responsibility for security and must make company-wide efforts. I also hope you will work to foster the national AI ecosystem."
Previously, on October 2, Deputy Prime Minister Paik had also held a joint meeting with the CEOs and CISOs of major platform companies such as Naver, Kakao, Coupang, and Woowa Brothers, urging them to strengthen information security.
