This project applied Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) techniques to establish a daily life safety infrastructure where residents can feel secure in their everyday lives. In the Icheon area, this is the third Safe Village Development Project, following those in Gwanggo-dong and Haewol-ri, Majang-myeon.
The main improvements include: ▲ enhancing the pedestrian environment around Icheon Elementary School ▲ improving lighting and beautifying alleyways in residential areas ▲ creating a quieter environment around the taxi rest area and public parking lot ▲ installing surveillance cameras and emergency bells to establish a crime prevention foundation.
The city explained that the project was carried out as a resident-participatory safety initiative, incorporating input from residents, on-site monitoring by civic groups, and consultations with the Icheon Police Station's crime prevention diagnosis team and design experts into the planning process.
Kim Kyunghee, Mayor of Icheon City, stated, "We will continue to gradually expand Safe Village projects at the township and neighborhood level so that Icheon can become an even safer and warmer city."
