"National Police Commission Urged to Consider Proactive Law Enforcement Measures"
As anti-China protests continue to take place throughout the city, Minister of the Interior and Safety Yoon Hojoong has instructed the police to respond proactively to hate rallies and demonstrations.
On October 10, Minister Yoon submitted the agenda item "Proactive Law Enforcement Measures by the Police" to the National Police Commission, stating, "The police must respond proactively to hate rallies and demonstrations and strive to create a safer society."
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety explained this measure by saying, "Recently, hate rallies and demonstrations have intensified, causing significant anxiety not only among citizens of certain countries but also across foreign communities as a whole. If such rallies and demonstrations continue, it could negatively impact not only the safety of our society but also international relations."
Minister Yoon added, "I hope the National Police Commission will thoroughly consider ways to enable the police to take a more proactive approach to law enforcement. The Ministry of the Interior and Safety will also work with the police to take any necessary measures."
The National Police Commission deliberates and makes decisions on major policies related to national police affairs, as well as matters submitted to the meeting by the Minister of the Interior and Safety that are deemed important.
