Samsung SDS is joining forces with OpenAI to build the next-generation Stargate data center. In addition, the company has formed a partnership to provide OpenAI services to domestic enterprise clients.

On October 1, Samsung SDS announced that it has signed a comprehensive partnership with OpenAI, becoming the first company in Korea to jointly develop and operate a next-generation artificial intelligence (AI) data center and provide enterprise AI services.

Through this partnership, Samsung SDS will collaborate with OpenAI on the design, construction, and operation of the next-generation Stargate AI data center. OpenAI will supply AI models on this cloud infrastructure.

Stargate is OpenAI’s cutting-edge project to build large-scale AI infrastructure. Samsung SDS has been selected as one of the domestic data center partners for Stargate. The company operates five data centers in Korea-Sangam, Suwon, Chuncheon, Dongtan, and Gumi-and has been providing ultra-fast, high-capacity cloud services through the Dongtan data center, Korea’s first high-performance computing facility, which opened in 2022.

Additionally, Samsung SDS will become the first company in Korea to form a strategic partnership to provide OpenAI’s AI services to domestic enterprise clients. Samsung SDS will support companies from consulting to implementation and operation, enabling them to connect their work systems with OpenAI models via API (Application Programming Interface).

An API serves as a bridge that allows different systems and software to exchange information. Through this, companies can use external AI in their own work systems without undergoing complex development processes.

Samsung SDS also plans to provide ChatGPT Enterprise services to domestic companies through Korea’s first reseller partnership. ChatGPT Enterprise is a high-performance AI solution offered by OpenAI for businesses, featuring enhanced security, management, and collaboration capabilities, as well as easy integration with internal systems compared to the standard version.

Through its generative AI platform, FabriX, Samsung SDS currently provides on-premises AI platform services-where the service operates only on the client’s own servers-for sectors requiring high security, such as public, defense, and manufacturing industries. With this partnership, Samsung SDS emphasized that it will be able to offer an even wider range of services to enterprise clients seeking to adopt AI.

Furthermore, both companies have agreed to cooperate to ensure the safe and responsible implementation of AI. The comprehensive partnership also includes plans to integrate Samsung SDS’s industry expertise and case studies with OpenAI’s AI technology.

A Samsung SDS representative stated, “We plan to explore a variety of business opportunities by combining Samsung SDS’s 40 years of IT experience with OpenAI’s advanced generative AI technology,” adding, “By merging Samsung SDS’s industry-specific expertise with OpenAI’s AI technology, we expect to lead AI transformation (AX) innovation across all industries.”
